THE CUB

Everyone knows that wolves make the best parents. Right?
Since we premiered The Cub in 2012, the film went on to play at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013. Riley wrote and directed his feature debut, Faults, in 2014. His next feature, The Art of Self-Defense, will be released in 2018.

INTERESTING BALL

A red ball bounces past a café and a couple of folks’ houses and then goes to the beach.
Since we screened Interesting Ball in 2015, the Daniels have written and directed their feature debut Swiss Army Man, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.

I can feel you in my belly.
Since we screened Belly in 2013, Julia directed the short film Summer Camp Island (2016), which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. She is currently developing it into a series for The Cartoon Network.

O NEGATIVE

Canada – 2015
A young woman and the man who cares for her race to find shelter in a roadside motel so they can feed her addiction, in this intriguing, wordless story about desire and dependency.
After screening with us in October 2015, O Negative was named to Canada’s Top Ten. Writer/director/actor Steven McCarthy has gone on to co-write and act in TIFF 2017 short film selection We Forgot to Break Up. Actor Alyx Melone just completed her first film as director/writer/actor, Talking Heads, which was produced by McCarthy.

After Day 40, Sol Friedman released the short films Bacon and God’s Wrath in 2015, and Stephen Hawking Knows the Future in 2017.

PREMIER AUTOMNE

France – 2013
Abel lives in the winter and Apolline lives in the summer. Isolated in their “natures,” they have never met. They are not even supposed to meet. So when Abel crosses the border and discovers Apolline, his curiosity is overwhelming. Their encounter soon becomes more complicated than they could imagine. Both of them will have to learn compromise to protect the other.
Since we screened Premier Automne in July 2013, Aude Danset has made another short film in a similar style, called Mishimasaiko (2016). Carlos de Carvalho directed and wrote the short film Nothing Else But Water (2014) and is the art director for upcoming animated feature Pachamama, to be released in 2018.

MIXTAPE

Mixtape is a short short about making a mixtape for that special someone.
In addition to Mixtape, we also showed Luke’s short Disco in January 2013. Since then, he’s been busy, working on a feature called The Wanderers and one based on John Green’s novel Let It Snow. He’s also directing a Netflix/BBC series called Wanderlust, starring Toni Collette.

LONG BRANCH

On a cold winter’s night, a woman’s quest for a one-night stand is complicated when the guy she goes home with lives two hours away by public transit.
Since Long Branch, Dane and Linsey went on to write and direct their first feature film, I Put a Hit on You (2014), a television series, The Commute (2016), and another short, Bickford Park (2017).

Clara’s overwhelming family can’t understand her solitary life, wishing she would find someone to grow old with. Following her aunt’s sudden death, Clara is put in charge of her pet. Little does she know that these are the first steps to an unlikely, but empowering, friendship.
Chloe Robichaud has gone on since directing Chef de Meute to direct two features, Sarah Prefers to Run (2013) and Pays (2016) and has written and directed episodes of the television series Féminin/Féminin.

FOXES

Ireland – 2012
Ellen and James live alone in a silent maze of uniform houses populated only by spectral shrieking foxes. James commutes to and from work each day, leaving in the morning, returning at dusk. Ellen spends her time photographing the foxes. Her pastime becomes an obsession. An obsession that alienates James. One day she flees the house, vanishing into the endless rows of overgrown gardens…
After Foxes, Lorcan went on to write and direct his feature debut Without Name, which had its world premiere at TIFF in 2016.
